Learn how to evaluate this metric programmatically in the Trustwise SDK Documentation.

The Trustwise Formality metric measures how professional or casual a text sounds. Higher scores mean the writing uses more professional language that you might find in business documents or academic papers. Lower scores mean the writing is more casual and conversational, like you might use with friends.

Formality will be increased by the use of:

  • Professional language and structure
  • Complex vocabulary

Formality will be decreased by the use of:

  • Colloquialisms and slang
  • Contractions
  • Textspeak

How do I know what formality is needed for my use case?​

Here are some examples:

  • 40: "I’ll shoot the documents over to your office tomorrow!"
  • 65: "I’ll get those documents to you tomorrow."
  • 90: "In fulfilment of your request, the appropriate documents will be dispatched to your office tomorrow."
